Infrastructural development has always been a key area of cooperation between China and Africa. During the 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, numerous industry experts gathered for in-depth exchanges on infrastructure construction cooperation at the China-Africa Infrastructure Cooperation and Exchange Activity held on June 12.

Themed “Jointly Building Sustainable Infrastructure and Advancing Modernization Development”, the activity focused on high-tech, green low-carbon, and digital sustainable infrastructure, serving China and Africa to jointly promote modernization.

Taking Hunan Construction Investment Group (HCIG), the largest foreign economic enterprise in Hunan, as an example, it began to explore construction cooperation with Africa as early as the late 1950s.

Hunan Road and Bridge Construction Group Co., Ltd. (HNRB), a subsidiary of HCIG, has participated in the construction of projects in multiple countries such as Rwanda, Kenya, and Ethiopia.

During the construction process, HCIG established a reputation for Hunan's construction industry with its excellent technology and management. The No.1 National Highway Project in the Republic of Congo won the national Quality Engineering Award in 2018 to 2019 and China Construction Engineering Luban Prize (Overseas Project) in 2020.

Hunan Construction Engineering Group, a subsidiary of HCIG, completed the first modern wresting arena in Africa in two years, the the China-aided Competitive Wrestling Stadium project in Senegal, which won the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize (Overseas Project) and Gold Award of China's Construction Engineering Steel Structure.

This high-quality wrestling stadium provides a broad stage for the Senegalese people's sports dreams and has become a symbolic building of China-Senegal friendship.

HCIG has continuously integrated resources to expand overseas markets. Its subsidiary, SHICO, initiated the establishment of the Energy International Cooperation Alliance and the Mining International Cooperation Alliance in 2023, continuously expanding its industrial chain.

In the first quarter of 2025, HCIG signed international business contracts worth 5.566 billion yuan, of which 41.20% are from African countries.
